Ioannina

Ioannina is the capital of Epirus and the largest financial, commercial and cultural center of Northwestern Greece.
Ioannina is located 440Km northwest of Athens, and 295Km soutwest of Thessaloniki at an elevation of 480 metres among high peeks. The castle of Ali Pasha, the island/islet of Kyra Frosyni, the oracle of Dodona and thecontemporary/modern university of Ioannina are the city's referece points a combination of traditional and modern, new reality and historical memory, natural beauty and development.
The Archaeological Museum of Ioannina includes findings-evidence of human presence and activity in Epirus since the Stone Age to Roman times.
Notable exhibits are those in Dodona, the oldest oracle in the Greek world.
At the island of Ioannina is one of the fewest inhibited lake islands in the world. There you can discover the "Byzantium" monasteries and admire the striking murals\frescoes of the era depicting unique themes and styles. The island is also where Ali Pasha found living quarters and took refuge. Ali's legend, inextricably tied to the tragic fate of Kyra Frosyni arouses on the banks of the lake, the narrow streets of the medieval castle of Ioannina and also at the "Citadel" where Ali's tomb and Serai are; today's "Byzantine" museum.
